Chronology of cameras Pontiac
The Pontiac folding cameras were featured in distributor catalogs from 1940 to 1953. The period of occupation during World War II complicates the analysis from 1940 to 1945, as there were few sales catalogs available.
All of these cameras are 6 x 9 cm in size and are divided into three series.
The second series is known as the Bloc Métal 41 (BM 41). They are made of aluminum (hydrolanium, a high-aluminum alloy with a bit of magnesium and manganese). They were marketed during the occupation, but the scarcity of film may have hindered sales. The lenses and shutters are superior to those of the first series. The BM 41 cameras disappear from catalogs in 1949. They use normal axis spools (120).
An advertisement that appeared in several magazines between 1948 and 1949 showcases a Bloc Metal 44. This was likely the successor to the BM 41 but never reached the stage of mass production. It served as a transitional model between the BM 41 and the BM 45.
Les éléments du corps des BM 41 sont fournis par Aluvac, et portent tous un numéro permettant l’étude chronologique. Le mécanisme d’ouverture est identique à celui des folding de Wirgin. Curieusement, M. Wirgin fut contraint de vendre son usine et de s’expatrier aux U.S.A. à cause du nazisme...
L’abattant, le dos et le corps portent les numéros 3523, 3524 et 3525, alors que le bouton d’enroulement a le N° 3790-5 et la petite poignée le N° 3857.
Il y a un écrou de pied au pas du Congrès sous l’abattant.
Sur ce BM 41 primitif, la poignée est en cuir, le bouton d'entraînement est moleté, et la fenêtre rouge est simple.
La patte de l’abattant est gravée Pontiac Paris (dans un logo représentant un objectif triplet) et PONTIAC verticalement.
Il n'y a pas de viseur iconométrique ; seulement un viseur redresseur pivotant.
